Fall
“All the trees are losing their leaves, and not one of them is worried about it.”
Donald Miller

I love fall for so many reasons. Yes, it is football season, and pre-season hockey has begun. The summer heat is starting to give way to some cooler days, and my buckeye tree is just now showing signs of color change. What I love most is the opportunity for routine to re-emerge in my life. After a long, discombobulated, chaotic summer calendar that truly became the lord over my life, I have spent the month of September re-centering my calendar around the idea of stewardship. Stewarding gifts. Stewarding relationships. Stewarding time. Time is the challenge for me.
“This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Psalm 118:24
The Lord has given us this day, and entrusted us to steward the time that He has allocated for us. How will I steward this great gift of time? The Holy Spirit had me start with pruning. I’ve always jumped to the idea that pruning is all about cutting away the dead branches. Yet the Lord made it clear in August that pruning is also about cutting away branches that are producing fruit in order that more fruit, bigger fruit will develop. August pruning session turned into a month like I have not had for a very long time. As the Holy Spirit graciously walks me through this season of stewarding time, I am reminded that He is the author and the loss of certain leaves in my life are not given a second thought.
